Papeete, on Tahiti, is the capital of French Polynesia, a group of islands in the South Pacific. Besides the port, busy Place Vai’ete fills with roulottes, or food carts, in the evenings. Nearby, the large Marché de Papeete market sells local produce, fish and handicrafts. The Robert Wan Pearl Museum focuses on the local pearl industry and sells jewellery. A red spire tops the 19th-century Notre Dame Cathedral.

Transpacific Cruise - Moorea
Arrive at 7:00 AM, depart at 5:00 PM.
Moorea is the picture-perfect vision of an ideal island paradise. Formed by volcanic activity, this heart-shaped island hidden a few short miles off the Tahiti mainland holds beaches that look out to the brightest blue waters you can imagine, and the soaring green peaks of the mountains here are the stuff of legend. Head to Tiki Village to experience a traditional Polynesian dance. Hike up to Belvedere Lookout for views of famous Cook's Bay and volcanic Mount Tohivea. Go snorkelling in the lagoon at Opunohu Bay, or check out the Moorea Dolphin Center to get up-close-and-personal with nature's cutest, most intelligent sea creatures.
Tip of the day: The coconut milk you buy in a shop is nothing like real island coconut milk – be sure to try some! Head to the Belvedere lookout point before 10 a.m. to snap the best photo overlooking the island.

Loosely translated from ancient Tahitian, Bora Bora means "created by the gods" — and when you set foot on this heavenly island in French Polynesia, you won't have any trouble understanding how it got its name. Crystalline turquoise waters and a vibrant coral reef surround a string of Motus — tiny islets around the main island, just across the lagoon. Relax in the powder-soft white sand of Matira Beach, and breathe in the fresh scent of Tiare Tahiti, the distinctive white gardenia that grows wild here. Dive or snorkel among the coral reef just off Sofitel Marara. Or hike iconic Mount Otemanu, the lushly forested extinct volcano at the centre of the island.
Tip for the day: Bora Bora's cuisine brings a mix of French, Asian and Tahitian flavours to the local seafood bounty. Looking for a breakfast fit to fuel a hike up Mount Otemanu. Try firi firi, a Tahitian doughnut that's also made with the ever-present coconut milk. Don't leave without trying the French Polynesian speciality, Poisson Cru, a ceviche of Tahitian ahi tuna in coconut milk and lime juice.

Nuku'alofa is the capital of Tonga and home of the royal family. While it may not be a perfect Pacific paradise, Tonga’s capital has hidden charm and promise if you blow the dust from the surface. The buzzy main street leads to the waterfront, from where there are impressive views across the bay to a coral island, a short boat ride away. The market here is mainline into Togan life, there are a few good places to eat and drink and you’ll still see pigs and chickens careening around the back streets.
